Sur|fac|tant [sə'faektənt; engl. Kurzw. aus surface active agent = grenzflächenaktiver Stoff], das; -s, -s:
1) im dt. Sprachgebrauch unübliches Syn. für ↑ Tensid
2) in der Med. Bez. für ein die Innenfläche der Lunge auskleidendes System aus Phospholipiden u. 2 versch. Apoproteingruppen mit MG 28 000–36 000 sowie 3 000–14 000.

Surfactant
 
[səː'fæktənt; englisch, kurz für surface-active agent »oberflächenaktiver Stoff«] das, -(s)/-s, Anti|atelektase|faktor, von den Deckzellen der Lungenalveolen gebildetes lecithinartiges Phosphatid, das die Epitheloberfläche der Alveolen filmartig auskleidet und als grenzflächenaktiver Stoff durch Senkung der Oberflächenspannung das Zusammenfallen der Lungenbläschen (Atelektase) bei der Ausatmung verhindert. Die Bildung des Surfactant setzt mit der fetalen Lungenreifung nach der 35. Schwangerschaftswoche ein und kann zur Lungenreifediagnostik bei drohender Frühgeburt im Fruchtwasser nachgewiesen werden; gegebenenfalls ist die Anregung der Bildung durch Corticosteroidgaben an die Mutter oder die Gabe von künstlichem Surfactant an das Neugeborene möglich. Das Fehlen führt beim Neugeborenen zum Membransyndrom. Auch an der Ausbildung der Schocklunge ist der Ausfall des Surfactant beteiligt.
